We Found It

Credits due DeLas Vegas Pecan Grill
A few weeks ago Chappy got on a tour kick of  the micro-breweries of Las Cruces.  Granted we only did two of them (not sure if there are more), but we really liked them!

We started with the De La Vegas Pecan Grill near to where we shop for our beer making supplies AND can buy a hot tub or get shock for the pool (in the same store!).  The Pecan grill had some tried and true brews, ie. IPA, Wheat Ale, etc.  But they had some house blends that even I, who am not a fan of beer in general, liked.  One that really hit a good note for me was the Pecan Beer.  With a nutty taste, it went down smooth--it probably had no hops if I liked it ...( dude, I was right!  The Pecan Beer is made with the Aggie's Amber Ale base--no hops!).  Pecans are huge in the upper valley area of El Paso and New Mexico (along the Rio Grande).  We also tried-- I say "we", and what I mean is that Chappy bought a flight and I took sips of all the differnt choices-- the Green Chile Ale.  Whoa!  If you like chiles you might appreciate this one.  Me?  Not so much.  Now the beer I usually use as a testing ground is the Wheat Ale  (Chappy's is IPA, mine is Wheat Ale).  I liked the wheat ale, it had just enough citrus and I liked the addition of the coriander.

How was the food?  We don't really know. We had the nacho pub grub and it was nice.  We were there for the beer after all.

The atmosphere was upscale and the barmaids all had short shorts and tight shirts (they looked good at least) but the table waitress' wore jeans and shirts.  Oh!  Something I liked.  As we were leaving we noticed a large fridge with clear glass doors.  Inside were numbered frosted mugs.  It all looked very mad scientisty to me--tendrils of frozen air eddying about the case.  We learned that you could purchase a numbered mug and it would be kept frosted, ready for your return.  It also was a part of the frequent "flier" program.  As we don't live in Las Cruces we didn't opt for it, but it was a nice idea.

Next post: High Desert Brewing Co

PS We didn't ride our motorcycles... that day.
